CAMPAIGNS / PAST EVENTS ADELAIDE FESTIVAL OF IDEAS: PLANNING FOR UNCERTAINTY Friday 7 to Sunday 9 October The Festival full program has over 80 speakers and 70 free sessions plus special events, forums, tours, exhibitions and screenings. All program sessions are free admission and do not require booking unless otherwise stated. The extensive program is bursting with fascinating, enlightening and challenging sessions presented by many of world’s most brilliant thinkers.Adelaide Festival of Ideas Advisory Panel Chair Robert Phiddian said he is thrilled with the diversity offered. “Session topics range from sex, politics, religion, economics, the environment, science and technology to ‘hacktivism’, health, architecture, literature, the arts, mental health, drugs, cosmology, super bugs, climate change, the carbon tax, the middle east, immortality, social welfare, the media, obesity and much more,” he said. FILM SCREENING “THE END OF THE LINE” Wednesday evening 7 September 2011 at the Mercury Cinema, Morphett Street, Adelaide. The documentary “The End of the Line” gives a stark overview of the world’s fish stocks which are plummeting to unsustainable levels due to decades of overfishing. This topic is highly relevant for South Australia. Guest speaker Peter Owen from The Wilderness Society will provide further information about the ongoing development of marine parks in South Australian coastal waters. SA currently has 19 declared marine parks, and a planning process is now underway to implement a series of zones with the objective of preserving these fragile aquatic environments from the increasing resource demands being made upon them.
ADELAIDE BRANCH POLITICS IN THE PUB "THE FUTURE OF ADELAIDE"
Politics in the Pub was presented by the Adelaide branch of the Greens SA with guest speaker, Adelaide Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood. This evening provided a chance to listen to what the new Lord Mayor has planned for the city, and a chance to ask questions and participate in a general discussion on the issues facing our city in the future. ADELAIDE BRANCH STALL AT THE PROSPECT MARKET
The Adelaide branch of the SA Greens held a fundraising stall at the Prospect Market on Saturday 19 March. On sale were pot plants, second hand books, items from the SA Greens shop including T shirts, bike safety vests, re-usable cups for take away coffee and greens merchandise.
