Win for Firefighters as Upper House Passes Greens’ Cancer Compensation Bill

The SA Legislative Council this evening voted to pass the Greens’ Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation (Protection for Firefighters) Amendment Bill – a Bill to provide cancer compensation to both paid and volunteer firefighters. Greens’ Emergency Services and Volunteers spokesperson Tammy Franks said she was pleased with the outcome.

Greens secure NAPLAN inquiry

The Australian Greens have secured a Senate inquiry into NAPLAN testing to examine widespread concern the tests are having unintended consequences on teaching and student learning.

Australian Greens spokesperson for Schools, Senator Penny Wright, said marketers were seizing on the stress created by high-stakes testing.

The Australian Greens have today paid tribute to Mayor Joy Baluch, a courageous advocate for the Port Augusta community.

"I met Joy on a trip to Port Augusta last year to see first-hand the strong community campaign for renewable energy," Greens Leader Senator Christine Milne said.

Dumb Cuts Will Fail Our Future

Students at Adelaide University will walk out of class at noon today as part of a nationwide protest against tertiary funding cuts. Greens’ education spokesperson, Tammy Franks MLC, will join students at the National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) rally, to be held at the Ligertwood Plaza at noon.
